Lakeview – Ralph “Jim” James Nielsen, age 73, of Lakeview, passed away on his 51st wedding anniversary, June 11th, 2017, with his family by his side, at Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids, MI. Jim was born May 6th, 1944, at Kelsey Hospital in Lakeview Michigan, the son of Ralph and Margaret (Miles) Nielsen. Jim was raised on his family farm in Coral, near Five Corners. He attended and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1963. Jim was a true farmer at heart, handling livestock, agriculture and dairy. Jim retired from the Dairy Farm 11 years ago. Jim married Nancy Norma Wood on June 11th 1966 at Asbury Methodist Church in Lakeview, Michigan by Pastor Robert Rill. His many hobbies included farming, fishing, hunting, auction Sales (especially horse auctions), breakfast with family at McKenna’s, and grilling and cooking because he loved to feed people.
Jim will be missed by his wife Nancy Norma Nielsen of Blanchard; three children Andrew James Nielsen (Jen Gatehouse) of Blanchard, Kirsten Kathleen (Bradley) Bolton of Blanchard, and Lara Mari Licari (Brandon Ley) of Six Lakes; son-in-law Mario Licari; grandchildren Josie Licari, Gage Gatehouse, Gavin Gatehouse, Raychel Nielsen, Ryan Nielsen, Jayden Mayle, Lucas Licari, Kendall Bolton, Cooper Bolton, and Ascher Bolton; siblings Larry (Norma) Nielsen of Lakeview, Gary (Lauri) Nielsen of Coral, Julie (Norman) Smith of Stanton; sister-in-law Julie Nielsen of Lakeview; one brother-in-law Jim (Lee) Wood of Lakeview; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Margaret Nielsen; parents-in-Law Glenn and Norma Wood; one sister Kay Hough-Brandt; and one brother Jack Nielsen.
Funeral services for Jim will be Friday, June 16th, 2017 at 2:00 PM, with visitation at 1:00 PM, at New Life United Methodist Church in Six Lakes, MI with Pastor Sue Babb officiating. The family will accept friends on Thursday, June 15th, 2017 from 4:00-6:00 PM at New Life United Methodist Church. Those wishing to contribute in Jim’s memory are asked to consider the Montcalm County 4-H - Live Stock Fund or to The New Life United Methodist Church - Youth Building Fund. A luncheon at New Life United Methodist Church will immediately follow the service. Interment will be at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Six Lakes following the luncheon.
