Marian Johnson

Obituary

Lakeview – Marian Louise Johnson, age 98, of Trufant, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at Spectrum Health Rehab and Nursing Center in Greenville, MI. Marian was born in Walker Twp. in Kent County on January 5, 1919, the daughter of Lynn and Marguerite (Vandenbergh) Johnson. She was raised in Cedar Springs and graduated from Cedar Springs High School Class of 1936. Marian married Robert G. Johnson at her parents’ home on October 17, 1942.

Marian worked in business, secretarial and insurance fields. She and her husband owned and operated a grocery store in Trufant, had the first pulp peeler in Kalkaska, and operated a trucking business. Marian was elected Kalkaska County Treasurer and retired in 1981 after ten years’ service. She became involved again in Trufant as Maple Valley Township Treasurer where she helped transition the format from paper/pencil to the computerized era.

Marian liked to golf, read, crochet, and enjoyed playing bingo and cards, but sewing was a special passion of hers. She delighted many nieces with the dolls that she dressed and presented to them. Later some beautiful wedding veils and quilts were made and gifted with love tucked in.

Marian will be missed by Fred and Phyllis (Edison) Reil, Alice Edison, Ione Edison, Lisa and Dave Tyler, Gary and Dorothy K. Craig, and Carol Young; many other nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and great-great-great nieces and nephews who were so fortunate to have been blessed with “Aunt Marian’s” special blend of love and laughter – none was better!

Marian was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert Johnson on July 28, 1986, her parents Lynn and Marguarite Johnson, five brothers William, Robert, Richard, Edward, and Theodore Johnson, and special nephews Delbert “Del” Edison, and John Robert Edison.

Funeral services for Marian will be Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at 11:00 at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview. The family will accept friends on Tuesday, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A luncheon will take place in the Brigham Banquet Room immediately following the funeral. The family requests memorial donations for Marian be given to Trufant Friends c/o Mary Johnson, 1520 Como Lake Drive, Greenville, MI 48838. Marion was a beautiful woman. Always happy and upbeat. We enjoyed every opportunity we had to spend time with her. She will be thought of often.
