Vestaburg – Arlo Dean Nickerson, age 75, of Riverdale, passed away Saturday, August 26, 2017 in Riverdale, Michigan. Arlo was born December 17, 1941 at the Carson City Hospital in Carson City, MI, the son of Arlo B. and Ruth L. (Stroupe) Nickerson. He was raised in Vestaburg and attended Vestaburg schools. Arlo married his wife Cheryl Elain Angell on May 1, 1965 at Grandpa and Grandma Stroupe’s home in Riverdale, Michigan. Arlo was an Army Veteran. Arlo was employed by GM for 25 years. Arlo had many hobbies including racing, racing, and racing. He also loved building automotive things. He once built a golf cart with a car engine. He put a 750 motorcycle engine inside a three-wheeler and yes he was the guy that turned an AMC Gremlin into the first of its kind by adding four wheel drive and replacing its current chassis with a Ford Bronco chassis. But his crowning achievement and what he built the best was his family and the legacy he left behind.
Arlo will be greatly missed by his wife Cheryl, sons; Rick (Bobbi) Nickerson of Edmore, Brian (Collen) Nickerson of Vestaburg, grandchildren; Alexander (Lauren) Nickerson of Alma, Andrea Nickerson of Elwell, Roman and Kiana Nickerson of Edmore, Kristi Hubbard of Vestaburg, great grandchildren; Payton Nickerson, Nora Nickerson, Logan Arntz, Mckenna Wainman, two brothers; Mike (Judy) Nickerson of Vestaburg, Tom (Nila) Nickerson of Vestaburg, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Arlo was preceded in death by his parents; Arlo and Ruth, one brother; Gary Nickerson, and his grand-daughter; Lindsey Hubbard.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Vestaburg Community Church of Christ (8723 Howard City-Edmore Rd. Vestaburg, Michigan). Pastors Lori Hoover and Judy Teegardin will be officiating the service. A private burial at Riverdale Cemetery will take place at a later date.
