Alice M. Schreiber

Lakeview – Alice May Schreiber, age 84, of Lakeview (formally of Amble), passed away peacefully in the early morning of July 25, 2017. Alice was born August 20, 1932 to Milo and Myrtle Keating. Growing up in the Morley area, she was Morley’s class of 1950 salutatorian. Alice attended Davenport College for secretarial skills and later worked for Kelsey Memorial Hospital as a transcriptionist. Her other full-time job was being the consummate “farmer’s wife” milking cows, hauling hay, and baking in the kitchen.

She married Melvin Edward Schreiber, her husband of 64 years, on October 25, 1952 and spent forty of those years with him on their 120-acre hobby farm one mile north of Amble before retiring to Youngman Road in Lakeview.

She is survived by Mel, their two children, Kathy Matthews of Lakeview. Mike Schreiber and his wife Kristi of Remus, and 6 grandchildren – Grandson David Schreiber, wife Rhiannon, and children Rainey and Jesse; grandson Marc Schreiber, wife Erin and children Gabe and Abby; granddaughter Ashley Ali and husband Yussif; Tyler Dunham and wife Katina; granddaughter Jennifer Hoaglin and husband Matt and children Dylan and Morgan; and grandson Mike Matthews.

Alice will be remembered and forever loved by her entire family for her nurturing spirit and unending devotion to them all. Family and her faith were always her top priorities. Baby-sitting grand kids, watching her son’s ball teams, and playing cards – Skip Bo with Kathy were some of her favorite past times. Crossword puzzles and activities with her church friends at Amble United Methodist Church filled out most of the rest of her spare time.

Funeral services for Alice will take place on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm with visitation at 1:00 pm at Amble United Methodist Church with Rev. Anne Reigler officiating. The family will accept friends on Thursday, July 27, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview, MI. A light luncheon at the church will follow a graveside service in Amble Cemetery. Those wishing to contribute in Alice’s memory are asked to consider Amble United Methodist Church.

Condolences to the family may be made utilizing the guestbook below.
