Lavon Lebeck Baird

Lakeview - Lavon Lebeck Baird (91) passed away peacefully on March 28, 2016, at Railside Memory Unit in ByronCenter, Michigan, after a l3 year struggle with Alzheimer’s.  Lavon was born July 25, 1924, the daughter of the late William and Elvah Lebeck.  She married her high school sweetheart, Loren Baird, in 1942 after graduating from Lakeview High School.  While her husband served in the Navy during WWII, she worked in a factory making parts for the war effort.  When her children were born, she stayed home until the youngest attended school.  She then reentered the work world as a telephone operator, retail salesperson, and customer service representative for the next 34 years, but her greatest commitment was always to her family.   Lavon will be remembered as a devoted wife, supporter of her children’s aspirations, and an always present and generous grandmother.  After retirement she and Loren moved to Florida during the winters until his passing.  In 1996 she married Andrew Haan and moved to Grandville, Michigan.

Lavon was preceded in death by her parents, husband Loren Baird of 47 years, her brother Fay, her sister Judy, her 2nd husband Andy, and her precious son Mick as well as two grandsons, Sean and Brian, and great granddaughter Amanda

She is survived by two daughters, Lorna Kay Kierepka (Robert) of Portage, Michigan, and Dana Carol

Baird of Gainesville, Florida; eight grandchildren, John Baird (Shari), Daniel Baird, Quentin Baird (Rachel),

Soren Brockdorf (Carmen), Nicole Jenney (Chris), Marisa Grizzard, and Elizabeth Kierepka; and 11 great grand children.  Lavon is also survived by her brother Roger Lebeck, sister Linda Keyes (Mike), and daughter-in –law Linda Baird and her children in addition to many cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

Lavon will be missed by all who knew her.  Her beauty was undeniable, her laugh infectious, and her love for family insurmountable.  Now she happily hums in heaven to her loved ones.

The family will receive friends and family at l:00 pm before the service at 2:00 at Brigham Funeral Home in Lakeview on Friday, April 1, 2016.  Pastor Steve Voelker will officiate.  Lunch will be served immediately after the service with burial committal following at the Lakeview Cemetery for those who wish to attend.

Contributions to her memory may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lakeview or the Alzheimer’s Association.

How lucky John & I were to be the eldest of the grandchildren which gave us the opportunity to have many grand adventures with you and Grandpa Loren! Always fond of food (think frozen yogurt
& Twix), you never shied away from preparing a delicious meal with whatever wild game we brought home. Always our champion and forever our devilishly sweet grandmother. Peace!

I was lucky enough to have been apart of the staff that cared for lavon until her passing. She was always smiling and brightened up my day as soon as I saw her beautiful smile. She was a lovely lady
inside and out and will truly be missed.

Good bye sweet Aunt Lavon. You were a wonderful influence to me during my early teen years. I would stop and see you several times a week at your job at Lincoln's store. You helped me choose miles of
fabric for sewing projects which I'm sure wouldn't have been as successful without your moderating influence! My sincere condolences to my cousins and their families. May she smile forever in the
hereafter with those who have gone before.
