Lakeview – Gary Lynn “Wee” Wheeler, age 71, of Lakeview, MI, passed away on January 30, 2016 at his home with family by his side. He was born March 9, 1944 in Coral, Michigan, the son of Gerald and Eleanor Maxine (Sutherland) Wheeler. He was raised in Coral, Michigan, and attended Lakeview High School, graduating in 1962. Gary served his country honorably in the Army from 1965 until 1968 and worked on Road Construction for 36 years. Gary was a volunteer firefighter for the Coral Fire Department for several years, where he spent time as Fire Chief. His passions included: hunting, fishing, bowling, golfing, and coaching the Lakeview High School Boys Bowling Team. Gary was a member of several bowling leagues, most recently the Monday Night Bowling League. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 324, the Lakeview Lions Club, and the American Legion of Morley. Gary loved his family and most especially spending time with his grandchildren.
Gary will be missed by his children Connie (Scott) Bouck of Coral, Tony Buchner of Eaton Rapids, Jenny Burch of Twin Lake, and Brett (Michele) Wheeler of Greenville; his 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; sister, Jean Thon of Grand Rapids; special friend Nellie Charron; nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Gerald S. and Eleanor Maxine Wheeler; and one sister Carol Wheeler.
Visitation for Gary will be on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from 1:00 – 7:00 PM at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview, MI.
Services for Gary will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 1:00 PM at New Life United Methodist Church Six Lakes, MI; with pre-service visitation hours starting at 11:00 AM. Snacks and beverages will follow the service at New Life United Methodist Church. Memorial Contributions can be made to the Lakeview High School Bowling Team or Kickin' Cancer non-profit of Lakeview.
