Lakeview – Russell Paul Nelson, age 64, of Stanwood, formerly of Lakeview and Coral, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Lena Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was born October 17, 1950 in Lakeview, the son of Paul Evans and Berniece Valance Nelson. He was raised in Lakeview and graduated from Lakeview High School Class of 1968. He also had training in Computer and Data Processing. Russell proudly served his country as an Army Ranger Specialist E-5 with the 82nd Airborne from 1968 until 1970. Russell was a Lieutenant Corrections Officer of 18 years for Ionia Reformatory Riverside Correctional Facility and Ithaca Correctional Facility. Russell married Suzanne Jane Moyses in 1991 in Ionia, Michigan. Russell enjoyed shooting guns, reading, refinishing guns, fishing, hunting, collecting hand guns, loved the outdoors, making rustic furniture, he enjoyed wood working, and western movies.  He was a lifetime member of the NRA.


Russell will be missed dearly by his wife Suzanne Nelson of Stanwood; children Russell Paul (Michelle) Nelson II of Mecosta, Sara Jane (Ramses) Diaz of Fort Bliss, Texas, Bruce Manley of Diberville, Mississippi, Bud (Julie)Manley of Lakeview, Candice Manley of Canadian Lakes, and Evelyn Gibson of Stanwood; Grandchildren Derick, Nicholas, Gabriel, Taylor, Brayden, Sydni, Embyrlee, Lucas, Kason, Ashlee, and Mariah; great-grandchildren Lauren and Brynlee; one brother Tom (Sharon) Nelson of Sherman, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Berniece Nelson; grandchildren, Jesse and Brittney Davis; great-grandchildren, Breylon Senn; one brother James “Jim” Nelson.


Funeral services for Russell will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Brigham Funeral Chapel in Lakeview, Michigan. Visitation for Russell will be on Sunday, October 18, 2015 from 5-7:00 P.M. and on Monday one hour before the service.
