Obituary

Peggy Anne (Thorn) Johnson, age 64 of Edmore, formerly of Portland, slipped into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, September 27, 2015.  Peggy was born on July 26, 1951 in Ionia, Michigan, the daughter of Marguerite and Elmer Thorn, Jr.  Peggy attended J. W. Sexton School in Lansing and completed her education at Portland High School.

Peggy was employed for 17 years at Motor Wheel in Lansing and as a Manager at Arby’s in Portland.  Peggy’s goal was to make a difference in other’s lives, which led her to become a youth leader with her church and later to becoming a foster parent for eight years within the Kent County area.  Peggy was a previous member of the Break Through Tabernacle in Weidman, the Sonshine Worship Center in Lakeview and most currently a member of the Edmore Full Gospel Church.  She enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Mackinaw City; camping, fishing and embroidering. 

Peggy is survived by her daughter, Tracy Johnson (Nathan Wing) of Edmore; one brother, Larry (Josephine) Thorn of Sunfield and one sister, Inez (Douglas) Keusch of Three Rivers; six nephews:  Larry Jr., Clinton, Matthew and Chadwick Thorn and Douglas, Jr. and Kurt Keusch; six great-nieces; three great nephews; two great-great nephews; best friend, Chrissy O’Bryan and numerous friends from within her church and the community.

A celebration of Peggy’s life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Edmore Full Gospel Church (302 Gilson Street, Edmore) with Pastor Susan O’Bryan officiating.  The family will receive the support of family and friends at a visitation scheduled for 1 hour prior to the service (10 to 11 a.m.).

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Great Lakes Caring and The Terrace at the Masonic Home in Alma for their excellent love and care extended to Peggy and her family. To share a condolence with the family please leave a message below.
