Lakeview – Nancy May Hoaglin, age 73, of Lakeview (formerly of Sparta), passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at her home with family by her side. Nancy was born on March 5, 1942 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Almond Fred and Leah May (Jourdan) Calkins. She was raised in Sparta and attended Sparta High School. On August 9, 1958, Nancy married Kenneth Lee Hoaglin Sr. “Big Ken” in Kent County. Nancy was employed as a cook for many years. She really enjoyed cooking, crafting, reading, playing board and card games. Nancy had a lot of friends and loved keeping in touch with people on Facebook. She was very family orientated and loved her grandchildren.
Nancy will be dearly missed by her six children Marlene (Brian) Woodard of Rockford, Kathy (Greg) Mason of Morley, Kenneth Jr. (Peggy) Hoaglin, Julie (Bud) Manley, Rebecca (Shad) Lockwood, and Eric Hoaglin all of Lakeview; special nieces Raenelle (Corey) Wilhelm and Leigh Anne Thompson both of Canadian Lakes; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren; four siblings Ethyl (Jim) Stubblefield of Grand Rapids, James (Kathy) Calkins of Irons, MI, Fred Calkins of Rockford, and Melissa (John) Powers of Sand Lake; and countless nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to express a special “Thanks” to Peggy Hoaglin and Mackenzie Boatman for their exceptional care of Nancy.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Hoaglin Sr. on Sept. 5, 2015; parents Almond and May Calkins; parents-in-law Ernest “John” and Kathryn Hoaglin; one sister Andrea VanDriel; two granddaughters; and one great grandson.
A Celebration of Nancy’s Life will take place on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at 6:00 P.M. from Brigham Funeral Chapel-Lakeview, with Rev. Ron Hansen officiating. All are invited to a luncheon immediately following the service.
