Rita Jimenez Alvarado
Rita Jimenez Alvarado, age76, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 12, 2014 at her home with her loving family at her side. Rita was born on May 22, 1938 in Millersview, Texas, the daughter of Jose` and Tereza (LeDesma) Sosa. Rita was raised in the Strawn and Eastland, Texas areas.
Together with her family, Rita worked with the migrants in the Edmore area working in the crops of apples, potatoes and cucumbers and picking cotton in the Texas area. Rita’s mother passed away when Rita was 16 and Rita raised her seven siblings. In April, 1957, Rita married Jose` Remedios Alvarado. After 43 years of marriage, Jose` Alvarado passed away on February 27, 2000.
As a homemaker, Rita loved her pets: cats, dogs and birds and enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking, and gardening. On September 11 she was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation by Home Township for beautifying the town with her flowers. Rita loved spending time with her family, grandchildren and the children in her neighborhood.
Rita is survived by her children: Maria Nemetz of Edmore, Teresa Alvarado of Grand Rapids, Micaela Alvarado of Cisco, Texas, Janie (James) Jolley of Edmore, Dagoberto Alvarado of Grand Rapids, Martin Alvarado of Edmore, Heraclio Alvarado of Texas and Cristina (Richard) Pierce of Stanton. She is also survived by Raquel of Stanton who she considered a daughter; 28 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers: Isabel (Esperanza) Jimenez and Zenon Nava of Breckenridge, Texas, Daniel (Elena) Nava of Strawn, Texas and a sister, Virginia (Manuel) Sauceda of Eastland, Texas, and several nieces and nephews. Rita “adopted” a family of “sisters” when she settled in Edmore: Aurora Patino, Agustina Peralez, Amparo Gonzalez , and Frances Baez. Sophia Wiegle of Austria and Maria Cruz of Mexico were also her extended granddaughters.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Jose`; her parents, Jose` and Tereza; a granddaughter, Megan Jolley; siblings: Felix DeLos Santos, Gloria DeLaCruz, Pascuala Jimenez, Federico Jimenez, Raymundo Nava and Tomas Nava.
The family would like to thank Misty, Bonnie and Becca of Spectrum Health Hospice for the care, love and kindness they showed Rita in her final months.
A Spanish Mass of Christian Burial has been scheduled for Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Father Luis Garcia at the St Margaret Mary Alacoque Parish, 1051 E. Howard City-Edmore Road in Edmore. The family will receive the support of extended family members and friends at a visitation scheduled for Monday, September 15, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Brigham Funeral Chapel, 413 East Gilson in Edmore, with a rosary at 7 p.m. with Father Dominic Tirkey. Interment will be in Vinewood Cemetery, Edmore.
Memorial contributions in Rita’s name may be made payable to Rita’s Family c/o Brigham Funeral Chapel.
