Richard "Dick" Earl Kruger
Mr. Richard Earl “Dick” Kruger, age 65, of Lakeview, passed away peacefully at home after a recent illness on July 5, 2014 . Born on Christmas Day, 1948 in Lakeview, MI to the late Earl and Margaret (Kappe) Kruger, Dick was raised in Lakeview and attended Lakeview High School. He continued on to Central Michigan University and graduated in 1973 with a Master’s of Education Degree.
Dick worked at the United States Postal Service in Howard City for many years as a courier before retiring last year. He was passionate about reading, the out-of-doors, hunting, fishing, and canoeing on his beloved land through which flow the beautiful Tamarack Creek and the Little Muskegon River.
He had a competitive spirit for canoe racing, finishing the Au Sable Canoe Race in 7th place! Dick raced the circuit all through Northern Michigan and Canada, including British Columbia. He had a special love for his hunting dogs: JD, Blue and Duchess. He was well-liked by all and had a generous heart always ready to give.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Margaret. Leaving to mourn his passing are his siblings: Judy of Lakeview, William of Montana, Robert & Charlotte of Lakeview, and Mildred of Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. In keeping with Dick’s wishes, no funeral services will be held.
A gathering to celebrate Dick’s life and share memories will be held at the Hough-Pontius VFW Post 3701, 8968 N. Greenville Road in Lakeview on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A private interment has taken place in Cato Township Cemetery.
