Mervin J. Bussell
On December 13, 2014, Mervin J. Bussell passed away at Green Acres Assisted Living in Greenville, Michigan. He was born on the family farm near Carson City to Edward and Valeria (Nee Edmonds) Bussell on September 7, 1918.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his three sisters (Edna Johnson, Ileen McLaughlin and Evelyn Kochensparger) and his two brothers (George and Walter Bussell).
On June 25, 1941, Merv married Norma Edwards in Lakeview. Shorty after their marriage, Merv served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Sonarman Second Class, was stationed in the Florida Keys before he was deployed to the Pacific Theater during WWII. Merv was a life member of VFW Post #5065 in Sheridan.
In additional to his wife, Norma, Merv is survived by their four sons: John and Linda of Stanton, Bill and Chris of Grand Haven, Tom and Barb of Warsaw, Indiana and Jerry and Cheryl of Saginaw. Merv also has thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Merv is survived by brother-in-law, Harold (Helen) Edwards and sisters-in-law: Elaine Edwards, Francis Edwards and Shirley Edwards.
Merv’s working career started at the former Dairyland Cooperation Creamery in Carson City, and then took him to the retail grocery business, several agribusinesses, real estate brokerage, investing and banking. Merv and Norma have been members of the First Congregational Church in Stanton since 1953.
The family appreciated the affectionate care provided in Merv’s later days by Green Acres Assisted Living in Greenville and Spectrum Health Hospice.
Visitation will be held at the Brigham Funeral Chapel, 413 E. Gilson Street, Edmore on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Pastor Jamie Nichols will conduct Merv’s funeral service at the First Congregational Church, 305 N. Camburn Street in Stanton on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at 11 a.m.
Memorial gifts are suggested in lieu of flowers to the First Congregation Church, P.O. Box 926, Stanton, Michigan or Montcalm Community College Foundation, 2800 College Drive, Sidney, MI 48885.
