Jack B. Ross
Jack B. Ross, born April 26, 1920, passed away March 22, 2014 at the age of 93. He was the son of Leno and Burdella (Clipper) Ross who both have preceded him in death. Also, preceding him in death is a daughter, Marsha Ross and a great granddaughter, Taryn Murphy.
Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara (Nelson); children: Jacqueline (Randy) Hansen of Reed City, Mary Ann (Wesley) Morris of Houghton Lake and James Ross of Grand Ledge. Jack was also a hero to his 5 grandchildren: Michelle (Joe) Murphy of Midland, Chad (Heidi) Hansen of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, Jeffery (Teri) Price of Belding, Ryan (Tracy) Hansen and Monty (Tara) Price all of Reed City, and a magical tease to his eleven great-grandchildren. Surviving also is a sister-in-law, Leora Nelson of Blanchard and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jack was born in St. Charles, Michigan. His parents moved to Edmore when he was four to open a bakery which later became known as Ross Restaurant. Meals, soups, homemade ice cream, malts and five cent coffee, to name a few, were served to the public for over 50 years.
Jack graduated from Edmore High School in 1937 and served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to1946 during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Edmore V.F.W. Post 2292 and a lifetime member of the Carson City American Legion Post 380.
Since retirement, Jack and Barbara have spent most of their summers at their cottage on Clear Lake near West Branch where Jack has enjoyed fishing, watching sports, relaxing, making homemade ice cream and good family times. As an accomplished master “putter-putser,” he kept himself as busy as he wished, always welcoming and making time for his children and grandchildren. Attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, birthday parties and other invites, now leaves a huge void in all our hearts, big and small, but the memory of him being there will remain forever. He will be greatly missed.
Please come to share memories with the family at a memorial visitation scheduled for Tuesday evening, March 25, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brigham Funeral Chapel, 413 East Gilson Street, Edmore.
