Jack B. Ross

Jack B. Ross, born April 26, 1920, passed away March 22, 2014 at the age of 93. He was the son of Leno and Burdella (Clipper) Ross who both have preceded him in death. Also, preceding him in death is a daughter, Marsha Ross and a great granddaughter, Taryn Murphy.

Jack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Barbara (Nelson); children: Jacqueline (Randy) Hansen of Reed City, Mary Ann (Wesley) Morris of Houghton Lake and James Ross of Grand Ledge.  Jack was also a hero to his 5 grandchildren: Michelle (Joe) Murphy of Midland, Chad (Heidi) Hansen of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, Jeffery (Teri) Price of Belding, Ryan (Tracy) Hansen and Monty (Tara) Price all of Reed City, and a magical tease to his eleven great-grandchildren. Surviving also is a sister-in-law, Leora Nelson of Blanchard and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jack was born in St. Charles, Michigan. His parents moved to Edmore when he was four to open a bakery which later became known as Ross Restaurant. Meals, soups, homemade ice cream, malts and five cent coffee, to name a few, were served to the public for over 50 years.

Jack graduated from Edmore High School in 1937 and served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to1946 during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the Edmore V.F.W. Post 2292 and a lifetime member of the Carson City American Legion Post 380.

Since retirement, Jack and Barbara have spent most of their summers at their cottage on Clear Lake near West Branch where Jack has enjoyed fishing, watching sports, relaxing, making homemade ice cream and good family times. As an accomplished master “putter-putser,” he kept himself as busy as he wished, always welcoming and making time for his children and grandchildren. Attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, birthday parties and other invites, now leaves a huge void in all our hearts, big and small, but the memory of him being there will remain forever. He will be greatly missed.

Please come to share memories with the family at a memorial visitation scheduled for Tuesday evening, March 25, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brigham Funeral Chapel, 413 East Gilson Street, Edmore.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the Edmore VFW Post 2292.

Condolences may be expressed to the family utilizing the guest book below.

  • A humble son-in-law (Tuesday, March 25 14 02:15 pm EDT)

I lost my father when I was 21. Over the years Jack became me second father. He always had an ear for me when I needed someone to talk with or tell my troubles to. He was always a fine example of how
a father and grandfather should be. He will be missed, but not forgotten. Rest assured I will be talking with him on a regular basis.

  • Josh Brimm (Tuesday, March 25 14 01:31 pm EDT)

Grandpa Jack was a wonderful man that I am very honored to have had the chance to know. Although our time was limited, he forever holds a place in my heart even if meeting him well after many others.
I could only imagine the joy he was to be around much more than the time i spent with him. My heart goes out to the family and if you all need anything I am always here for everyone.

What I wouldn't give for one more...
    ...finger to pull.
    ...bowl of homemade ice cream.
...quarter pulled out of my ear.
    ...doll at Christmas.

You are standing in the middle of the dirt road behind the yellow cabin and our car is driving away. As we wave to each other, I realize this one is different. With profound sadness I say, "So long".
    I love you!
