Elmer Ovid Beach


Elmer Ovid Beach, age 68, of Vestaburg passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at his home in Vestaburg.  He was born on September 8, 1945 in Vestaburg, Michigan, the son of  Ovid Allen and Retha Mae (Funsch)Beach.  He was raised in the Vestaburg area and graduated from Vestaburg High School with the class of 1964.

Elmer served his country as a specialist in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968, serving in Germany.  Elmer married his wife of 23 years, Jodie L. Mitchell on June 9, 1990 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant.  Elmer was employed at Frigidaire (Gibson’s, Electrolux) as a line repairman for 39 years, retiring in 2006.  He was a former member of the Ferris Center Church, the former assistant chief of the Stanton Volunteer Fire Department and a current member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant and the Greenville American Legion.  Elmer enjoyed deer hunting, picking on his grandchildren and his mother-in-law, farming, camping at Two Hearts River and picking up agates.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Jodie; children:  Karrie Niles of Greenville, Trevor Beach of LaPorte, Indiana, David (Crystal) Galdeen of Holly and Cory Wood of Vestaburg; his former wife, Sharon Deal of Edmore; grandchildren:  Sierra Niles, Kenneth Galdeen, Chase Muringer, Nicholas Galdeen, Amani Galdeen, Bella Galdeen; his mother-in-law, Eloise Mitchell of Adrian; his sister, Joan (Fred) Wing of Vestaburg and brother, Steven (Melanie) Beach of Vestaburg and numerous friends.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Ovid and Retha; his step-father, Albert Eldridge; his father-in-law, John Mitchell; his sons:  Nicholas Galdeen and Clifford Buller and brother-in-law, John Mitchell, Jr.

A funeral service to celebrate Elmer’s life will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church located at 320 South Bradley Street in Mt. Pleasant with Reverend Dana Hendershot officiating.  A visitation has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 12 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Brigham Funeral Chapel, 6055 Howard City-Edmore Road, Vestaburg and also one hour prior to the service on Thursday (from 10 to 11 a.m.) at the Immanuel Lutheran Church.  Interment will be in Ferris Township Cemetery at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions honoring Elmer may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
