Edith Marie Hough McCarthy Roomsburg
Edith Marie Hough McCarthy Roomsburg, age 92 of Blanchard passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2014 at her home in Blanchard, with her family by her side. Edith was born on December 22, 1921 in Waukegan, Illinois and raised in the Sheridan and Stanton area by her loving parents, Arthur and Luella (Sprague) Hough.
On May 19, 1945, she married Earl McCarthy, a local farmer. They were married 29 years, celebrating their 25th anniversary with family and friends at their daughter’s home. Soon after Earl’s death on July 15, 1974, she entered the workforce at NuFoods in Edmore and HQ Manufacturing in Six Lakes and Lakeview, retiring on September 23, 1988. On September 19, 1998, she married Glen “Stan” Roomsburg; they had a wonderful 16 years together until his death on May 27, 2014.
Edith will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, great aunt and a loving friend to many. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, taking pictures and loved to travel. Most importantly she loved to go shopping. Edith was a long time member of the Blanchard Pine River Methodist Church.
Edith is survived by her children: Roger McCarthy of Blanchard, Karen (Dale) Meyer of Edmore, Thomas McCarthy of Greenville; seven grandchildren: Amy (Dick) McCarthy Baker, Kelly Nesbitt, Michael (Kristine) McCarthy, Kyle (Nicole) Nesbitt, Lyndsy Meyer, Carrie Jo (Greg) Haskin and Cory McCarthy; eight great-grandchildren: Ryan McCarthy Baker, Jenna McCarthy, Brynn Nesbitt, Adelyn Nesbitt, Jonathan and Danial McCarthy and Emery and Alexandra Nesbitt and many nieces and nephews.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl; husband, Stan; her brothers: Arby (Jo) and Laverne Hough; her sisters: Florence Miller and Lillie Mason; her niece, Ila Greenhoe; her nephew, Chet Borton; her grandson, Richard Lee Nesbitt and her loving daughter, Sandra Jane Nesbitt.
Funeral services to celebrate Edith’s life have been scheduled for Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Brigham Funeral Chapel, 413 East Gilson Street, Edmore with Pastor Rusty Morgan officiating. The family will receive the support from extended family members and friends at a visitation scheduled for Friday, November 21, 2014 from 4 to 8 p.m., also at the Brigham Funeral Chapel in Edmore. Interment will be in the Pine River Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Edith’s honor may be made payable to the Blanchard-Pine River Church or to a designation of your choice.
