David R. Stephens


David R. Stephens, 64, of Lakeview, previously of Lennon, MI, passed away Wednesday, September 03, 2014 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus.  He was born May 11, 1950 in Flint, MI to Raymond Evans and Amy Jean Clark. He married Miss Deborah Bigelow on August 14, 1971 in Flint at the Hilltop Church of God and they were fortunate to have just celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary.


After graduating from RETS Electronics Trade School in Detroit, the U. S. Army sent him traveling to Vietnam for 1971-1972.  Upon returning home, David and Debbie settled in Lennon, MI and began raising their family.   He retired after 30 years of service at General Motors to Lakeview on Townline Lake and became known as “Pontoon Dave”.  He was known for his love of people, love of boating and all things water.  He enjoyed travelling and camping; the computer – E-Bay, Youtube, Facebook.  He was a member of the Antique Outboard Motor Club, the Lakeview Lion’s Club, and the Swartz Creek VFW.


David was preceded in death by his son, Matthew David Stephens in 1995; his father, Raymond; his mother, Amy Jean; his father-in-law, Morris “Mike” Bigelow; and a brother, Scott Stephens in 1983.


Left to cherish David’s memory are his loving wife, Debbie; daughter, Janet Stephens; adoptive Dad, DeWayne and Mareta Stephens; mother-in-law, Beverly Bigelow; siblings: Kevin and Janet Stephens of Ocqueoc, MI, Lisa and Todd Borck of Burton; brothers- and sisters- in law: Larry and Vicki Bigelow of Flushing, Richard Bigelow of Lakeview; niece, Amy Davis;  nephews: Jamie Bigelow and Jay and Wanda Bigelow; and good friends: Dave, Kim, Kaylyn and Katie Johnson, and Sheri  Hunter.


Funeral Services for David will be on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Brigham Funeral Chapel, 9977 Howard City-Edmore Road, Lakeview, MI. Visitation will be Thursday evening, September 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brigham Funeral Chapel, Lakeview; on Friday, September 5 from 2 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, September 6 from Noon to 1 p.m. Interment will be held on Tuesday, September 9 at 11 a.m. in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1106 S. Washington Street, Owosso, MI. 


Memorial contributions may be directed to Lakeview Lion’s Club or to Kelsey Hospital Guild.
