Clayton Lewis Winger
Clayton Lewis Winger, age 87, passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Spectrum Hospital – Butterworth Campus. He was born on September 21, 1926 in Lakeview, Michigan, the son of Burton and Anna (Croad) Winger.
Clayton served in the U.S. Navy from February 5, 1945 to July 6, 1946. Clayton married Patricia L. Moore on December 9, 1947. Clayton was employed by Ranney Refrigeration in Greenville for approximately 30 years, prior to retiring in 1989.
Clayton was a “jack of all trades,” who could fix or create anything. He was a welder, carpenter, mechanic and electrician who loved refinishing antique furniture. He enjoyed music and was rumored to posses the ability to play anything with strings. Clayton also enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.
Clayton is survived by two daughters: Andria (Fred) Edmonds of Muskegon and Kristy (Jeff) Baker of Raleigh, North Carolina and a son, Lon (Mary) Winger of O’Fallon, Illinois; along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Clayton was preceded in death by his parents, Burton and Anna and three brothers: Henry, Charles and Chester.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Boyd Cemetery located in Deerfield Township in Mecosta.
